Floyd to watch Pacquiao fight

Expect Floyd Mayweather to be at ringside when Manny Pacquiao battles Adrien Broner to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title this weekend at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe confirmed the presence of the undefeated American boxer, saying that he will personally check out if Pacquiao still have what it takes to face him in a dream rematch this year.

“Yes, he’s coming,” Ellerbe said at the sidelines of the Pacquiao-Broner grand arrival ceremony that signals the last six days of the fight.

The sequel in the megabuck fight that features two of the best boxers in the planet – Pacquiao and Mayweather – is something fans want to see.

Reports have it that there were already preliminary talks and organizers are looking at staging it sometime in July.

An “accidental” meeting at a rave party in Tokyo last year fueled these speculations followed by another encounter last week at the Staples Center where the Los Angeles Clippers hosted the NBA’s Filipino Heritage Night.

Pacquiao maintained that those encounters were not part of the plan to fan the flame of their possible rematch.

“Again, it’s just a pure coincidence,” he said.

In their first encounter, which emerged as the sport’s richest fight ever, Mayweather edged Pacquiao by a slim margin.

A lot of things happened since then with trainer Freddie Roach returning to the Filipino’s corner while Mayweather had figured in a couple of fights for entertainment purposes.

But the biggest development that keeps the flame of the rematch burning was Pacquiao’s newly established relationship with Premier Boxing Champions – a promotion outfit owned by Mayweather’s adviser in AI Haymon.

And now that Mayweather will be at ringside, expect the flame to develop into an inferno.
