Dumb no-el threat

No wonder political candidates, like now senatorial candidate aboveground commie Neri Colmenares, will never make it to the Senate, or even a regular House seat — except of course, running as a partylister that only requires a negligible national vote and a very, very small percentage of a senatorial vote to win a seat. Part of the reason such politicians never make it to regular House seats, and worse, higher seats, is that such politicians like Colmenares use the fear factor in trying to get elected, even when injecting fear in the electorate has been proven to be ineffective more often than not.

The latest spiel Colmenares has come up with is his warning of a no-election scenario cropping up since he claims “no-el” is probable as senators are likely to approve the Charter change (cha-cha) bill approved by the House of Representatives that would open wide the door to a federal system of government before the midterm polls.

This is a most stupid warning to the electorate, given the fact that the country is now ready to start the election process going, as the official election campaign period has just started.

Where then does Colmenares get that silly warning of a “no-el” scenario descending on the electorate?

The former partylister now gunning for a Senate seat claims the Senate approval of the House cha-cha is possible, if not probable, since the term limits for all politicians have been lifted.

“There is a big chance that there won’t be elections, since the stumbling block in cha-cha was removed. So, what’s the reason for senators to oppose this?” said Colmenares at a news forum.

With provisions such as lifting the term limits of lawmakers, senators are likely to approve the House-approved version of cha-cha, according to Colmenares.

“So, why should you vote against a cha-cha that benefits you since the term limits have been removed?” Colmenares added.

The former partylister is way off the mark.

There is zero chance for the Senate to approve the House cha-cha measure mainly because there is little time for senators to even discuss this measure and later call for a bicameral congress to join the two bills since the constitutional mode of a constituent assembly (con-ass) approving though joint voting as one chamber any amendment or revision of the current Constitution is zero to zilch.

The Senate already had an earlier cha-cha measure which has not even been voted upon by the senators. That Senate bill calls for a constitutional convention (con-con) which calls for the nationwide election of delegates to work on amending, revising and drafting a new charter that will need ratification by the electorate.

It will be the elected delegates that will craft a new constitution and, if they do, it may not even be for a change of systems and form of government.

Another important thing to remember is that the present Congress and whatever bills it left behind when it finally makes way for a new Congress will have to be filed again, if a reelected senator chooses to revive his bill calling for cha-cha. However, chances are high that a revived bill will still call for cha-cha through a con-con and not through a con-ass since the mode that many congressmen want is a cha-cha through the con-ass mode which tends to make asses of themselves.

From the start of the official election campaign period up till the early part of May this year, nothing but nothing will be on the minds of reelectionist senators and congressmen except elections, campaigns and touring the length and breadth of the country (for senators) to get themselves elected, while the congressmen up for reelection, or their wives, sons or daughters seeking the pater familia’s seat, are suddenly in their districts while the commie partylisters bank on their military arm, the New People’s Army in the boondocks to threaten the folks to vote for their aboveground commies’ partylist or else… and, of course, extort more money from the businesses in their area, plus the fact that the NPA rebels will be charging other politicians for a sizable amount of a campaign fee to allow them to campaign in the areas under commie control.

Colmenares is certainly not stupid. He knows that a “no-el” scenario will not come about. Of course, even as the former partylister and loser now seeks a Senate seat the second time around, with a sure second electoral loss, he raises the “no-el” specter, but also says he hopes senators will oppose the cha-cha “as a matter of principle.”

But why raise the “no-el” scenario then when he virtually called the senators unprincipled, since Colmenares also said senators will approve the House cha-cha bill since the term limits are to be lifted?

First, Colmenares had to come up with this stupid claim of “no-el” at this time because he hungers for the media coverage other candidates are getting and, second, because like all commies, especially their founder, Joma Sison, they are the usual dichotomists.

Try, try again will still not give Colmenares as well as his other politician comrades the hope to be elected as senators of the Republic.
