ABS-CBN still No. 1

More Filipinos preferred watching ABS-CBN’s entertainment and news programs as it topped all TV networks in urban and rural areas nationwide in 2018, gaining an average audience share of 45 percent for the whole year (excluding Holy Week) against GMA’s 32 percent, based on data from Kantar Media.

Multinational audience measurement provider Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

In 2018, ABS-CBN was the network of choice by Filipinos in Metro Manila, where it scored an average audience share of 42 percent versus GMA’s 26 percent. ABS-CBN also started gaining ground last year in Mega Manila and capped off the year by registering an average audience share of 36 percent versus GMA’s 34 percent.

ABS-CBN also scored huge ratings leads in other territories, including Total Luzon, where it tallied an average audience share of 40 percent against GMA’s 35 percent, in Total Visayas where it garnered 53 percent against GMA’s 26 percent and in Total Mindanao where it hit 52 percent against GMA’s 28 percent.

Among all time blocks, ABS-CBN gained the highest viewership in primetime (6 p.m. to 12 midnight) with an average audience share of 49 percent from January to December 2018, leading GMA (32 percent) by 17 points.

ABS-CBN also dominated the list of the most watched shows in 2018, securing 16 slots in the top 20. Ranking first was FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, which remained undisputed with an average national TV rating of 41.2 percent. It was also the highest-rating show in all areas in the country in 2018, including Mega Manila and Metro Manila, where it recorded 32.8 percent and 37.5 percent, respectively.

The other programs that made it to the list include Pilipinas Got Talent (38.1 percent), Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids (33.3 percent), Bagani (31.8 percent), La Luna Sangre (31.4 percent), TV Patrol (30.5 percent), Ngayon at Kailanman (28.8 percent), MMK (27.2 percent) and The Kids’ Choice (26.2 percent).

Other top-rating shows also include Wansapanataym (25.7 percent), Home Sweetie Home Walang Kapares (23.4 percent), Wildflower (23.3 percent), Home Sweetie Home (23.2 percent), Halik (22 percent), Meteor Garden (21.6 percent) and Rated K (19.8 percent).
