Distraught Cafgu member kills soldier

A government soldier was killed while two militiamen were seriously wounded when a distraught member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu), went on a shooting rampage at the height of the New Year’s Eve revelry in Isabela City, Basilan.

Belated reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo identified the fatality as Philippine Army Cpl. Sali Tagayan. The two other victims identified as Alejandro Enriquez and Sahadain Indanan Mustamad, were seriously wounded after sustaining gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies.

Their assailant, a Cafgu member identified only as a certain Alam immediately fled after the attack and is now the subject of massive manhunt.

Investigation showed that Enriquez and Mustamad were manning their posts at Kapatagan Grande Detachment Patrol Base in Basilan, when Alam suddenly went berserk and fired his M-16 rifle indiscriminately.

Tagayan reportedly tried to pacify Alam but the suspect instead shot him before also attacking the two other victims.
