‘Money behind Maza resignation’

The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), whose head activist Liza Maza resigned recently, was tagged “inutile” in addressing poverty because it failed to get its allocation of about P4.5 billion each year since 2016.

A government official who requested anonymity from the Daily Tribune said the commission failed to get the money from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.(Pagcor) because Maza failed to come up with a comprehensive plan.

With Maza unable to carry out the agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte in alleviating poverty, PAGCOR officials were barred from greenlighting the release of the funds.

The Daily Tribune source connected with another anti-poor agency said what the Maza-led NAPC did was to conduct forums, seminars and mere “anti-poor gimmicks.”

The comprehensive plan required NAPC by PAGCOR should be consistent with the programs of the National Economic Development Authority so there is “unity” among anti-poor government agencies in addressing poverty, the source said.

Maza failed to come up with such a plan because it would have been completely opposed to the anti-poverty program of the Communist Party of the Philippines, he added.
