MMDA to discard tow services

An official of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Monday they are likely to junk towing services amid growing reports of abuse.

In a radio interview, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said abusive towing firms became a liability for the agency.

“We are looking at doing away with the tow trucks. We will withdraw their accreditation because they are causing us a headache. The image of the MMDA suffers due to abusive tow trucks,” he said.

However, Garcia clarified the MMDA will still have to conduct hearings before a final decision on this option is made.

Meanwhile, Garcia also expressed confidence the increased penalties for illegal parking recently approved by the Metro Manila Council will prove effective in deterring road obstructions.
