Lucky punch hands Araneta belt

CEBU CITY — Christian Araneta knocked out veteran Jerry Tomogdan with just two seconds left in the 12th and last round of their World Boxing Council Asia silver light-flyweight title fight Saturday night at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

The surprise knockout came at 2:58 in the final round when Araneta caught Tomogdan with a crisp left uppercut.

That lucky punch by Araneta broke Tomogdan’s nose as he dropped to the canvass on his back. A medical team attended to him right away.
