4P beneficiaries first to get nat’l ID

The PhilSys will replace most government-issued cards

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has announced that the effective implementation of PhilSys (Philippine Identification) or National ID system will be on 25 August.

The PhilSys Act was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on 6 August and was published in newspapers on 9 August.

“The law will take effect 15 days after publication in general circulation,” PSA chief and national statistician Lisa Grace Bersales said in a radio interview.

The PhilSys is the government’s central identification platform. It will harmonize, integrate and interconnect the countless and redundant government IDs by establishing a single national identification system to be known as the Philippine Identification System.

The Phil-ID will contain information such as the PhilSys number, the name, address, date and place of birth, gender, blood type, photo of the owner and biometrics.

One million ID cards will be released first to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries.

A total of P2 billion has been earmarked for the implementation of the national ID system under the 2018 national budget.
