It seems that actor Xian Lim is not afraid to get out of his comfort zone. This year, he was one of the actors who tried their hands at semi-professional basketball league as one of the players for the Mandaluyong El Tigre club at the inaugural Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

XIAN Lim Lim revealed another new undertaking at last week’s Cinemalaya closing night. The actor is set to debut his directorial job at the annual film festival. Tentatively titled Tabon, Lim revealed during an interview that he had already developed the story while he was filming Two Funerals with the late director Gil Portes. He also shared he had undergone a writing workshop with acclaimed screenwriter and author Ricky Lee.

Tabon was named as among the official entries of the 15th edition of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival in 2019.

Disney recently released the photo of Chinese superstar Liu Yifei as the titular character of the live adaptation of the 1998 animated film.

Liu Yifei Liu looked every bit the personified Mulan with her face barely made up while looking fierce wielding a sword. Reports have said that Whale Rider and The Zookeeper’s Wife director Niki Caro is set to direct the reported US$290 million film. Mulan is being shot in New Zealand and China.

Aside from Liu, the live adaptation also stars Donnie Yen as Mulan’s mentor Commander Tung, Ysan An as her love interest Chen Honghui and Jet Li as the emperor. Other cast include Jason Scott Lee, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Rosalind Chao.

Mulan is expected to hit cinemas on 27 March 2020.

Richard Gomez and Sharon Cuneta Sharon confirms reunion movie with Goma

More than three decades since their appearance in 2003’s Walang Kapalit, Sharon Cuneta and Richard Gomez are reunited on the big screen.

Sharon confirmed the news via social media account by posting a photo of her with Gomez with the words “SHAGOM is Love” imposed on it. She thanked their fans who have been supporting their love team for 30 years. In a separate post, she revealed that the movie is set to hit screens in November 2018.

Reports said that the Sharon-Richard movie is titled Three Words to Forever, which will be directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. It was also revealed that Kathryn Bernardo, sans perennial loveteam partner Daniel Padilla, will star as the couple’s onscreen daughter.

KYLIE Verzosa From beauty queen to superhero

Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa wears another crown, but this time as the queen of the ocean in Epik Studios’ superhero movie Osyana.

Osyana is part of the league of superheroes in the Epik Cinematic Universe. Epik Studios has planned a 10-year phase of their ambitious cinematic universe that will feature the heroes and villains published in their graphic novels imprint.

The other heroes include Pedro Penduko and Maria Makiling, played by the reel and real-life loveteam of James Reid and Nadine Lustre.

Osyana is tentatively scheduled for release in 2019.

JUNIOR New System Junior New System off to the live shows

It’s a round of resounding yeses for the Filipino dance crew Junior New System as they head to the Live Shows in America’s Got Talent.

The group will join comedy duo Yumbo Dump from season 2 who impressed the judges with their act of making silly noises with their bellies, and winner of season 2 The Sacred Riana who managed to achieve over 12 million views on YouTube with her scary illusions in the Live Shows.

These three acts will be performing in the live shows over the next three weeks where their fates of moving forward to the semi-finals will be left in the hands of the audience. The live show airs every Thursday at 6 p.m. and encores at 8 p.m., while the live results show airs every Friday at 6 p.m. and encores at 8 p.m. on AXN.
