Mandaue boxing bouts

CEBU CITY — All roads lead to Mandaue City when two regional boxing titles are disputed in a rare boxing promotion on Saturday at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Undefeated Christian Araneta tries to outsmart the more-experienced Jerry Tomongdan for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council silver light flyweight crown.

Another exciting bout is expected as French Jaber Zayani stakes his unbeaten record (14-0-0) against Eduardo Mancito (16-8-3, 9KO’s) of Iligan, Lanao del Norte for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental super featherweight belt.

Although one year younger than Zayani, the 26-year old Mancito has more fights but was knocked out twice in his career with 16-8-2. He has nine knockout victories, though.

Araneta, a stablemate of new WBA featherweight champion Jhack Tepora, is aiming for a win in his second comeback fight as he aspires to move up the current rankings. The 23-year old Araneta failed to fight for two years because of an injured shoulder.

Just recently, Araneta showed no traces of injury and proved himself fit for a bigger fight when he knocked out Ian Ligutan from Laguna.

Araneta climbs to the ring with 15-0 record, 13 by way of knockout. The 24-year old Tomongdan, who knocked out Donny Mabao in his most recent fight, has a record of 29-9-4, also with 13 Kayoes.
