Cops cited for honesty

Aviation officials have honored the police officers and Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPIA) security staff for recovering a traveler’s lost bag containing P1.5 million.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco personally recognized seven members of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Unit 4 (PNP-AVSEU), CAAP Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS), Puerto Princesa Tourist Police and Eagle Matrix Security Agency, Inc. for their honesty and swift assistance to Danilo Dequito, who lost the bag at the airport on 31 July.

The seven were CAAP airport security assistant Jel Anthony M. Cervantes, PNP AVSEU 4 PO3 Widmark R. Briones, PNP AVSEU 4 PO1 Anabelle L. Guimbongan, Puerto Princesa Tourist Police Unit PO2 Leoniliza B. Bautista, PO2 Job Arkhe T. Sancho III, Eagle Matrix security guards Jovani A. Yumen and Edgar B. Conde.

Dequito was traveling from Manila to Puerto Princesa City when he lost his luggage.

Sydiongco said the acts and deeds of the security personnel disprove public perception that policemen are corrupt and dishonest.

The CAAP hopes that the honesty showcased by Puerto Princesa International Airport’s security staff inspires other airport personnel enough to emulate it.

“You have proven to all that employees of the DoTr and CAAP can be trusted and are honest,” Sydiongco said at the ceremony.

“When we face such situation, we are ready and won’t hesitate to do the right thing,” he added.
