WPS TWG created

The Philippines has already officially communicated to China the creation of a technical working group (TWG) on the possible joint exploration by the two countries in the disputed West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano revealed this yesterday, saying China’s Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua was “very positive” when he received the news.

“I’ve communicated already with the Chinese ambassador that we’re forming our TWG. He’s very happy,” said the DFA chief.

He said that it will be “better for everyone” if an agreement can be forged between the parties.

“Assuming there are commercial quantities and everyone is saying there are, isn’t it better for everyone to benefit from this now?” said Cayetano.

He said he wants to craft the agreement right away, hopefully early next year. “That can happen if by August, September, October we already have an agreement,” he added. with PNA
