Drug sweep nets 162

A total of 167 drug personalities were arrested by policemen in the metropolis in the last 24 hours culminating at dawn yesterday, records showed.

The Manila Police District headed by Chief Supt. Rolando Anduyan had the lion’s share of the arrests with 47 persons nabbed either for selling or using illegal drugs.

The Southern Police District had 44 arrests, including 14 by Makati City, 12 by Taguig and five each by the cities of Pasay and Paranaque. Las Pinas and Muntinlupa nabbed four each.

The Northern Police District, under Chief Supt. Gregorio Lim, arrested 37 alleged druggies.

Caloocan City collared 25 and the anti-drugs unit of the Northern Police District bagged 8 individuals.

National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar ordered the intensification of drug operations in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s reinvigorated war against drugs.

Meanwhile, a teenager facing multiple criminal charges and three other persons accused of different crimes fell into the hands of the law Wednesday night.

The Valenzuela City police arrested Wency Compendio, 19, a resident of 403 Athena Building in Chateau de Valenzuela, around 7:30 p.m. He did not resist arrest.

Compendio was nabbed by virtue of three existing warrants of arrest issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 223 Judge Caridad Walse-Lutero, Judge Rosa Samson of Branch 105 and Judge Madonna Echeverri of Branch 81 for the crime of carnapping, robbery hold-up, robbery and other related charges.

Operatives of the Northern Police District Special Operations Unit also arrested Christian Reyes in Barangay Longos, Malabon City based on an arrest warrant issued by Valenzuela City Regional Trial Court Branch 269 Judge Emmanuel Laureana.

Reyes is facing charges for robbery with physical injuries.

Earlier, 23-year old Resty Gonzales of Goldrock Street, Barangay San Roque in Valenzuela City, was arrested for frustrated murder charges.
