LPA spotted in Cagayan

LPA is unlikely to intensify into a storm.

Weather forecasters spotted a low pressure area (LPA) east of Aparri, Cagayan, which they said is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon.

The southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, has remained the dominant weather system dumping rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA is unlikely to intensify into a storm. It is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility today, Monday, as it is pulled by a tropical cyclone with the international name Shanshan.

Shanshan is too far to directly affect the country and is instead heading to Japan, said Aurelio.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and ARMM due to the southwest monsoon.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will experience isolated rains or thunderstorms brought by the southwest monsoon.

Northern and Central Luzon will, meanwhile, experience isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.

The southwest monsoon was being enhanced by a low pressure area located 1,335 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, Aurelio said.

Mindanao, northern and central Luzon, on the other hand, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds will blow over the western section of southern Luzon. Its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said.
