Duterte has 3 parties

Pres. Duterte President Rodrigo Duterte was quoted as saying Monday that his political party is Hugpong ever since.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque relayed the words of Duterte in answer to a query if what will happen to Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) if the president has another party during a press briefing in Davao City.

“I don’t know,” Roque said on the fate of PDP-Laban.

“That’s my party ever since in Davao,” Roque said quoting Duterte’s answer to his question if what is his party.

Duterte is the chairman of the PDP-Laban, the national political party that helped his presidential run in 2016 that catapulted him to Malacañang.

During his mayorship of Davao City, Duterte’s party was the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod. He remains the figurehead of the party.

The President is reportedly also one of the lead convenors of Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), the regional party formed by Davao City mayor and his daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio last month.

The HNP is preparing its senatorial slate for the mid-term elections next year and its candidates will likely clash with the bets of PDP-Laban which is also forming its lineup for the senate race.
