PNP launches ‘Clean Rider’ campaign

The Philippine National Police (PNP) led by Director General Oscar Albayalde on Wednesday launched the “Campaign Plan: Clean Rider” which aims to totally eliminate crimes committed by motorcycle riding suspects.

Many reported crime incidents, from simple robbery to assassination, involved suspects riding in motorcycles, commonly referred to as “riding in tandem.”

“This is a stern move by the PNP to protect the Filipino people, to make our streets safe for the public,” Albayalde said in front of an estimated 5,000 riders from different parts of Metro Manila and other provinces who gathered at Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park.

Albayalde, who is a motorcycle rider himself, said the campaign is meant to develop a culture of well-discipled and responsible road marshals and eliminate crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects.

Present on the launching ceremony are PNP Deputy Director General Fernando Mendez Jr., National Capital Region Police Office Director, Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar and Highway Patrol Group chief, Supt. Roberto Fajardo.

Albayalde led the ceremonial signing of pledge of commitment and tagging of “Clean Rider” stickers with participants from various motorcycle clubs and organizations.

Under the program, a rider will be given a sticker after submission of the official receipt and certificate of registration of his motorcycle, his driver’s license and other valid identification cards.

The PNP will verify the documents to determine if the concerned individual has an existing criminal record.

The stickers given to the riders are equipped with security features, including QR code, which can be scanned using a smartphone app to verify the information about the rider and his motorcycle.

Albayalde said the filing of application for the program and the sticker is free of charge and voluntary.

According to the PNP, the nationwide campaign is a strategic initiative to reduce crimes committed by motorcycle riding suspect and ensure the safety and security of the citizens.
