Lawmen arrest six robbers

The director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) presented to the media yesterday two members of a notorious robbery group and four other suspected criminals arrested in separate operations.

Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. identified the suspects as Eddie Valliente and Ronald Calderon who were arrested on July 30 in Brgy. Bagong Ilog, Pasig City.

Police investigation revealed that the suspects with three other cohorts, all armed with handguns, forcibly entered the house of businesswoman Misella Maling at 54B Calumpit Street corner Bansalangin Street in Brgy. Veterans Village in Project 7 on Sunday and carted off several valuable items including a cellphone and a 32-inch LED television.

The five fled using a taxi, which turned out to be registered under the name of basketball player Douglas Kramer. Kramer admitted ownership of the taxi and helped the police trace his driver’s whereabouts, leading to the arrest of suspects Valiente and Calderon.

Recovered from the two were the taxi used in the robbery, one caliber .38 revolver loaded with three live ammunitions, one cellular phone, one 32” LED TV and one laptop bag.

However, the three other suspected members of the robbery group remain at large.

Two other suspects, namely 18-year old Mark Oliver Buenaventura and his 16-year old friend, were arrested for allegedly snatching a cellular phone of one Jay Lorenz Conanan while the victim was waiting for a ride at the corner of Mayon and Maria Clara Streets in Brgy. Salvacion around 6:00 p.m. Monday.

The police presented two other suspects for robbery extortion, namely Alvin Aluad and Mike Rowell Sucaldito of Iron Wing Towing Services.

They were accused of demanding P12,800 from truck driver Reynaldo Abrigo in exchange of the release of his driver’s license and key of the truck towed by the suspects early Monday morning.

Abrigo reported the incident to the police resulting to the arrest of the suspects in an entrapment operation around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the corner of Mindanao Avenue and Lucaria Street in Brgy. Talipapa.

The six suspects are now facing appropriate charges before the Quezon City Prosecutors’ Office.
