Coast Guard warns colorums

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) warned the public yesterday not to patronize colorum inter-island vessels to avoid putting lives and limbs in danger.

This as the PCG reported the rescue of all 12 crew members and passengers of a motorized banca which sank near Culasi Point in Roxas City last July 29.

Investigation revealed the boat was hired by a certain Jesus Ziban for a trip to Tuwad Island in Roxas City.

It departed from People’s Park in Barangay Baybay, Roxas City. While heading back to Roxas City, the boat was battered by big waves and strong winds which caused it to take in water and eventually sink.

PCG vows to prosecute colorum boats operating without the necessary permits and features to ensure the safety of passengers.
