Makati police ops yield 2,164

“Among those solved since May 10 were 17 robbery and two homicide cases.

The Makati police have apprehended a total of 2,164 violators of city ordinances and national laws in day-and-night operations conducted throughout the city from May 10 to July 26.

New Makati police chief S/Supt. Rogelio Simon reported to Mayor Abby Binay that violators accosted in the past two months included 1,029 individuals for smoking in prohibited areas, 144 for drinking in public places, 873 minors for violating curfew ordinance and 96 for other offenses.

Earlier, the mayor exhorted the local police force to intensify peacekeeping efforts in the barangays and at the central business district, especially at night time.

“Establishing police visibility, especially during unholy hours, has proven to be an effective deterrent to crime,” Binay said.

As of 26 July, or barely three months into Simon’s term, the local police have conducted 107 anti-illegal drugs operations, which led to the arrest of 176 drug personalities consisting of 48 suspected pushers and 128 suspected users.

For the same period, they conducted 77 anti-illegal gambling operations that led to the arrest of 244 offenders and the filing of criminal charges against 77 adults among them.

The police were able to serve a total of 214 warrants of arrest that led to the apprehension of 127 named accused.

Among major cases solved since 10 May were 17 cases of robbery, two homicide, 11 physical injury, 39 theft and one rape case.

Records also show that from 1 July 2016, when Binay took office, until 9 May 2018, the police conducted 436 anti-illegal drugs operations, netting 336 suspected pushers and 530 suspected users.

In 325 anti-illegal gambling operations, they arrested 956 and filed cases against 323 adults. They also apprehended 839 persons named in warrants of arrest issued by the court.

Cases solved were 90 robbery, seven homicide, 94 physical injury, 446 theft and 21 rape cases.
