Airlines’ transfer on hold — DoTR

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the Department of Transportation (DoTr) said yesterday that the terminal transfer of airlines, tentatively set for 31 August 2018 will not push through.

In a joint press statement, the MIAA and the DoTr denied social media reports on the alleged transfer on the aforementioned date.

“While talks with some airline operators have started and with some signifying their intent to transfer, options that have been discussed are exploratory in nature,” said MIAA-DoTr.

Discussions have given rise to unforeseen operational constraints that require longer time to resolve, said the agencies.

MIAA formalized its request to defer the implementation of the Terminal Rationalization Program to the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Transportation, in a letter dated 5 June 2018.

No transfer of airlines will occur until further notice, said the agency which manages the different terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

“As soon as a final decision on this has been made, we will blast an official statement via our official communications platforms,” MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal said.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade assured the public that announcements will be made once all issues have been resolved and plans are finalized.

“We will release an advisory as soon as all possible options have been carefully evaluated. We have to make sure… so as not to sacrifice the comfort, convenience and safety of the public,” Tugade said.
