6 dead in ‘shootouts’

At the wrong place at the wrong time, civilian dies from stray bullet.

Five suspected criminals and an innocent bystander were killed in shootouts with the police in Metro Manila in the last 24 hours.

Pasay City policemen were conducting an “Oplan Sita” on Merville Access Road Sunday night when two men on board a motorcycle ignored a checkpoint and reportedly shot it out with the lawmen who gave chase.

One of the men, still unidentified at press time, was declared dead on arrival at the Pasay City General Hospital, according to Southern Police District (SPD) director Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario Jr.

Recovered from the fatality was a .38 caliber revolver.

In Quezon City, three alleged armed hold-up men, also unidentified as of posting, died in a reported gun battle with policemen from the Kamuning Police Station.

The police said they chanced upon the suspects as they were robbing a woman at the corner of Panay Avenue and Dr. Garcia Street in Barangay Paligsahan.

A civilian, one George Marcelino, was also killed by a stray bullet while traversing the area on a motorcycle.

Recovered from the suspects was the bag of the woman with P1,800 in cash.

Still on Sunday, a certain Efren Abrasado Jr. was killed in a brief gun battle with elements of the Eastern Police District – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Pasig City police inside the Guanio Compound in Brgy. Maybunga.

The driver of a Grab taxi identified as Antonio Alison reported to the police that two men robbed him while parked at the corner of F. Caruncho Street and C. Raymundo Avenue in Barangay Caniogan.

A follow-up operation led to the alleged shootout with Abrasado, according to policemen headed by S/Insp. Jansky Andrew Jaafar.

Retrieved from Abrasado was a .38 revolver and Alison’s belongings.
