Koko welcomes PDP caucus call

Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) president Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III yesterday welcomed President Duterte’s call for a party caucus following last week’s supposed national assembly held by “rogue members.”

Pimentel, at the same time, downplayed the impact of the faction of Rogelio Garcia and Willy Talag to PDP as the ruling political party in general.

“If this is the way that we can meet, I will attend the meeting,” Pimentel said stressing he has been wanting to meet with President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the party.

Pimentel, however, said there are no details yet as to when, where and who will be meeting during the caucus.

Asked if he knows Garcia, Pimentel said “he is a practicing lawyer in General Santos. Once upon a time, he was a member (of PDP).”

Special Assistant to the President Secretary Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said the President called for a caucus to unify the party amid the forming of a faction which is made up of mostly expelled party members.

Go’s name was listed as party auditor in the Friday assembly but he said he only found out about the existence of the faction in the party recently and that he informed Duterte, the party chairman, about it.
