Troops clash with NPA rebels in E. Samar

Soldiers from the 87th Infantry Battalion recovered one high-powered firearm after an encounter with CPP-NPA terrorists in Eastern Samar last July 23.

The troops were responding to a report of extortion activities in Barangay Pinanag-an, Borongan town at around 11:23 a.m. when they encountered around 10 CPP-NPA terrorists along Brgy. Pinanag-an, Borongan town at around 11:23 am.

The encounter lasted for 15 minutes with one soldier getting wounded.

One M16 Elisco rifle was recovered from the terrorists. Also seized were five civilian backpacks containing documents used for terrorists’ Ideological Political Organizational (IPO) works, and one detonating cord.

“While our troops intensify Internal Security Operations and Community Support Programs to deliver the basic services of the government and to protect the people, the local terrorists continue their extortion activities and other criminal acts that instill fear and anxiety in the hearts and minds of peace-loving Filipinos,” Maj. Gen. Raul Farnacio, the Commander of 8th Infantry Division, said.

Farnacio commended the troops for their utmost dedication in performing their mandated duty.
