Xander Lee rekindles love for music

Making music and what’s it like working with onscreen partner Heart Evangelista.

Former K-pop boy band U-Kiss member turned Kapuso actor Alexander Lee is back in Manila to launch his latest single, “Keep Ya Head Up.” For this song, he collaborated with fellow Korean singer and rapper Marucci, whom he met on the set of My Korean Jagiya in 2017.

Fans were quick to show their support to GMA Network’s resident Korean star as they were excited to hear more of what Alexander has to offer after leaving U-Kiss in 2011.

“I feel old. Because the last time I did music here in the Philippines was with U-Kiss and Party Pilipinas. We were doing ‘Bingle Bingle.’ That time I had so much energy, but now I feel like a lolo (grandpa). I’m enjoying (it); I can have fun onstage singing and performing,” he said with a laugh.

The song “Keep Ya Head Up” can now be streamed and downloaded from Melon, iTunes, Spotify, Mnet and other leading music sites worldwide.

“Marucci and I met on the set of My Korean Jagiya. We didn’t really talk about anything back then, but after I went back to Korea we casually talked about it. I have the passion of doing music again,” Xander shared. “He is a really good musician, he composed our music. I asked, why don’t we do something together and voila we have this AXM project?”

He envisioned his music to be lively so that it matches the taste of Filipinos.

“We thought about S.M.N and we were thinking that it’s a fun song because it matches the party culture here, the liveliness. Since we have a fast song, we’re trying to do a slow song. Unexpectedly we came up with this idea because we want show people around Korea. They know a lot about Myeongdong, Dongdaemun but Kwangjang market is one of the very popular places that shows the different sides of the Korean local area. It’s fun. We were brainstorming thinking of all the ideas. It was tough but it was very fun,” he said.

During the press launch last Monday, Xander shared that his friends in Korea congratulated him after the success of My Korean Jagiya.

“A lot of people actually congratulated because it was a really big thing, it was a really big blessing. When we went to the mall show, people are yelling, we were receiving so much love from the Filipinos. It was so good that everybody actually in Korea congratulated me,” he shared.

He treats Philippines as his second home and expressed that he can’t wait to do more projects in the future.

“I was surprised because it’s a big blessing from God. This time, since a lot of people saw me acting I want to show them more how I do on stage. Something different, a different image, a different hair color so that’s what I try to achieve. I want to show people a different side of myself,” he said.

“The last time I saw her was during a video call before that incident [miscarriage] happened. After that, I heard about it. Personally, I know what it feels when you want to have your alone time so I just texted her,” Xander shared.

Recently, he was seen having barbecue in Korea with Senator Chiz Escudero and his daughter. “His daughter went to Seventeen’s concert in Korea so we just met up and had a nice barbecue together. We went around Korea in a car to see different places but it was also raining season, so sayang naman (too bad). I tried to show them around. Heart was in France. She needed her alone time I guess, after all the stress. I haven’t seen her yet, but probably next week.”

During the short time he worked with Heart Evangelista last year for their teleserye, Xander was quick to believe that this challenge will only make her a stronger person.

“All I truly believe is in God’s timing. When it’s the right timing, when God thinks it’s correct she’ll be the mom so I hope she won’t be sad or disappointed. From my personal thinking, her life is too perfect, this little thing is just going make her stronger, more like human. But now she’s like a Disney princess, so talented, so mabait (kind) and so maganda (beautiful). This little thing will just make her stronger I believe.”
