Cop chase leads to drug hideout

“Eight sachets of suspected shabu were seized from the suspects, along with 11 sachets of marijuana leaves.

The Pasay police busted yesterday an alleged drug syndicate headed by one Percival Boganan in a buy-bust operation that resulted in the arrest of five other gang members.

Supt. Gene Licud led the team which collared the 53-yer-old Boganan, said to be a member of the Sputnik Gang.

Arrested with Boganan were his son Gil, 25; nephew Permar Arcega, 33; Brenda Mercurio, 33; Carmel Jude Lucas, 20 and Spike Samtoy, aged 19.

The drug bust took place near Boganan’s house at the corner of Tramo and Nobel Streets in Brgy. 57 at around 2:30 a.m.

One of the suspects, in fact, led the police to Boganan’s house where he ran to while being chased after sensing his buyer was a cop.

The elder Boganan was detained in 2004 for robbery. His son and nephew were arrested last year on drug charges.

Eight sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P65,000 were seized from the suspects, along with 11 sachets of marijuana leaves with a street value of P1,000.

Also recovered was the P500 bill used in the buy-bust operation.

The police filed criminal charges against the suspects for violation of Republic Act 9165 and Presidential Decree 1829.

The arrest of the six came two days after the Muntinlupa City police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) captured six members of the so-called Lorena Group drug syndicate headed by its leader Christina Lorena.

In the same operation, the two law-enforcement groups also rescued six four-year-old children who have long been used as drug runners according to PDEA intelligence report.
