Tabora begs off from Asiad

National bowler Krizziah Lyn Tabora yesterday begged off from seeing action in the 18th Asian Games by citing health reasons.

In a letter to Philippine Bowling Federation president Steve Robles, the reigning World Cup champion filed a medical leave of absence that would bar her from campaigning in the quadrennial meet in Jakarta next month.

She didn’t specify the reason but stressed that it’s a “serious health condition” that needs immediate treatment by professional healthcare providers.

Tabora is being considered one of the bright spots in the Philippine delegation.

In fact, chief of mission Richard Gomez is seriously considering her to serve as flag-bearer together with Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz and World Taekwondo Federation Man of the Year for 2017 Monsour del Rosario.

“I have a serious health condition that involves treatment by professional healthcare provider,” said Tabora, who became the first Filipino to win the Bowling World Cup in 14 years.

“It is so unfortunate that I will be unable to represent the country in the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia due to my health condition.”

She, however, is leaving the door open just in case her health condition improves.

“I hope and I pray that I will get well soon so I can come back and get to represent my country again in the future.”

“Playing bowling has been a part of my life. It’s the only sport I enjoy and love doing,” Tabora said.

Despite Tabora’s absence, the Nationals are still pumped up to emerge victorious in the prestigious multi-event conclave.

Athletes in track and field, weightlifting and cycling were added in the final roster, jacking up the number of athletes to 279 with 38 coaches.

Among the last-minute inclusions are track and field bets Kristina Knott, Janry Ubas, Anfernee Lopena, Clinton Bautista as well as weightlifters Eireen Ando, Maria Dessa Delos Santos, Ellen Rose Perez and cyclist Leah Belgira. JM
