Parliament retained in final BBL measure

The proposed Bangsamoro government will have a parliament made up of 80 members or representatives and headed by a chief minister elected by legislators.

Among the contentious part of the Bangsamoro Basic Law that will now be called Bangsamoro Organic Law on Muslim Mindanao (BOLMM) is the conflicting form of government between the autonomous region and the national government.

Non-Muslims and indigenous peoples will also have seats in the proposed Bangsamoro Parliament under the newly approved BOLMM, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said.

“The highest organ of government is the Bangsamoro Parliament headed by a Chief Minister elected by 80 members or representatives of which at least half or 40 are party representatives,” Zubiri said.

“The other half shall be divided into district representatives and sectoral representatives. Seats are also reserved for members of the non-Muslim indigenous peoples as Teduray, Lambangian, Dulangan Manobo, B’Laan and Higaonon,” he added.
