No classes in QC on July 23

Private and public schools in Quezon City will have no classes in all level on Monday, July 23, when President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his State of the Nation Address (SoNA) in Congress.

Quezon City Administrator Aldrin Cuña announced the class suspension Thursday.

The suspension is a precaution to students as protest rallies will be held in streets leading to the Batasan Complex.

Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the Department of Transportation will implement a traffic rerouting scheme along Commonwealth Avenue on SoNA Day to ease heavy traffic leading to the House of Representatives.

Under the traffic rerouting scheme, motorists bound for Fairview from Quezon Memorial Circle must turn from the Elliptical Road to Quezon Memorial Road, turn right to North Avenue then right to Mindanao Avenue, head straight to Sauyo Road, turn left to Regalado Avenue or Chestnut Street going to Fairlane and then head towards the destination via Commonwealth Avenue.

Motorists from Fairview heading south to Quezon Memorial Circle should turn right to Fairlane or Regalado Avenue from Commonwealth Avenue, head straight toward Old Sauyo Road, turn left to Mindanao Avenue and then head to the destination via North Avenue or Visayas Avenue.

The QCPD will set up a counterflow area in Commonwealth Avenue that motorists heading to Batasan Complex from Quezon Memorial Circle can take.

The counterflow area will start at the zipper land of Commonwealth Avenue in front of the Home Depot and will end at the zipper lane’s exit in front of the Lido Restaurant for those heading to IBP Road and in front of Sandiganbayan for those heading to Fairview.
