Lapeña foils smuggling scheme in MCT-Phividec
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) filed last Wednesday criminal cases against three alleged smugglers and one licensed broker for misdeclaration of millions-worth of sugar and rice shipments.
The BoC also accused the four for involvement in a “swing operation” at the Sub-Port of Tagoloan, MCT-Phividec.
Charges were filed against Meljane Mejos, owner of Mave Trading; Asrafani Riga, owner of JDan Trasing; and Sherbet Alazas, owner of General Success Merchandise.
All three consignees were assisted by Raul de Leon Jr., a licensed Customs broker.
De Leon was also charged for processing the importation of the illegal shipments in MCT-Phividec.
BoC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said he will get to the bottom of the case. Investigation will continue until all personalities involved, not only in the unauthorized or illegal release of containers but also those involved in what could be a large-scale “swing operation” and “release now, file later” scheme are made accountable.
