Dike breach floods Malabon

CLASSES were suspended in different areas in Luzon while many passengers of public utility vehicles were left stranded for hours due to heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Henry.

In Barangay Dampalit, Malabon City, classes in all three schools were suspended, as the majority of the streets were flooded since the weekend.

The schools are the Dampalit Integrated School, Dampalit Elementary School and the Academia. The floodwaters started to subside yesterday.

The barangay hall had gutter-deep floodwaters while in other areas, the flood reached knee-deep.

Barangay officials said the flooding happened over the weekend due to overflowing water from the dike caused by heavy rains and the high tide.

More than 6,000 sandbags were placed on the embankment but they proved not enough to stop the overflow.

Among the affected areas included Sitio Doña Juana, Sitio Rodriguez One and Two and Merville Subdivision.

Aside from the said barangay, several areas, such as Abra de Ilog, Mamrubao and Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro suspended classes in all levels.

Same goes with Bacoor, Rosario, Tanza and Kawit in Cavite and as well as in Mariveles, Bagac, Morong and Dinalupihan in Bataan.
