Premature complaining

With the mid-term elections around, candidate wannabes are discreetly campaigning early. And while employing “premature campaigning” tactics, they are also doing demolition jobs of their rivals to increase their chances of winning or running unopposed.

The opposition’s opening salvo came with a complaint before the Commission on Elections that Special Assistant to the President Bong Go and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos are prematurely campaigning as shown by his regular distribution of relief goods and cash assistance to fire victims and her regular sightings at various fiestas.

But Supreme Court spokesman Theodore Te reminded there is already a jurisprudence, a 2009 ruling of the High Court itself, that premature campaigning is not a violation of election laws.

The reminder promptly silences people who are prematurely complaining of premature campaigning.

And for those fire victims SAP Go is helping, they would remember the names of those preventing him from helping them come election day.
