NAIA Terminal 2 rehab set

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) will start soon the rehabilitation of Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

MIAA media affairs division head Jess Martinez said there’s no tentative starting date yet for the civil works but the rehabilitation will certainly commence this year.

NAIA 2 is currently hosting flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) for its international and domestic flights.

Earlier, the MIAA announced it would try to beat the August 31 deadline given by Congress for the realignment of NAIA’s several terminals.

Martinez said the realignment aims to resolve the congestion problems at NAIA.

Under the realignment, NAIA 2 will be used for domestic flights because it was not designed to handle international flights.

NAIA’s terminals will stay fully open during rehabilitation works, said Martinez.

NAIA Terminal 1 has been given a makeover last year, while Terminal 3 as the newest airport has required the least amount of structural work.

All terminals of NAIA handled 42 million passengers last year.
