Gokongwei carriers refund terminal fees

Flag carrier Cebu Pacific and its affiliate CebGo have remitted to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) P245,610,829 as refund for terminal fees collected on international and domestic passengers.

The amount represented fees collected from the unused tickets of 212,100 international passengers covering February 1, 2015 to April 30, 2018; and 892,800 domestic passengers covering August 1, 2012 to April 30, 2018.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal thanked the companies owned by the Gokongweis for taking the lead on the refund which he hoped other airlines would follow.

The amount refunded stemmed from the automatic collection of terminal fee by MIAA under the past administration through their inclusion in the price of plane tickets.

The practice was stopped by the Duterte administration.

The Php 245,610,829.00 shall only be held in escrow by MIAA for refund to the passengers who bought the unused tickets.

Said passengers may apply for a refund of the terminal fee at the MIAA Collection Division, Ground Floor, MIAA Administration Building, MIA Road, Pasay City.

They are advised to bring their tickets with record locator and a valid identification document.
