Kiko’s brother-in-law to run as mayor under DU30’s ticket

Liberal Party (LP) president Francis Pangilinan yesterday said he respects the decision of his brother-in-law Chet Cuneta to run as Pasay City mayor in next year’s elections under President Rodrigo Duterte’s coalition.

According to Pangilinan, he and Cuneta had talked about the latter’s political plans and that he wishes him well.

Chet is a brother of Pangilinan’s wife actress, Sharon Cuneta, who publicly announced yesterday Chet’s political plans in Pasay.

“Chet and I have discussed his political plans, and we both accept the reality that even as we share close family ties, we will both have to respect one another’s opposing political views,” Pangilinan said.

“We may not see eye to eye with how we regard the current administration, but I respect his decision to run for Pasay City mayor as part of the administration ticket. I wish him well,” he added.

Pangilinan said as LP president he will continue to lead the opposition in serving as check and balance to the Duterte administration.

“As a member of the opposition in the Senate, I remain committed to our constitutional duty to act as a check and balance to the administration,” Pangilinan said.

“As one of the leaders of the opposition, I remain committed to strengthening our ranks and to working for a prosperous and peaceful Philippines,” he added.

The Cunetas are not new to local politics. Their father, the late Pablo Cuneta, served as Pasay mayor for 41 years.
