Boracay closure to hasten Kalibo airport’s rehab

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said yesterday that construction works to improve the passenger terminal building of the Kalibo International Airport (KIA) will start today.

Civil works at Kalibo’s airport, with a contract for P17.9 million awarded last month, will be hastened by the traffic and passenger movement cutback arising from the closure of island tourist magnet Boracay.

CAAP said it plans to make most out of the given time and opportunity brought about by the reduction of flights to and from KIA because of the six-month rehabilitation of Boracay.

Rehabilitation works include the refurbishment of the existing passenger terminal building, electrical and airconditioning system re-wiring, landscaping, repainting and the rehabilitation of railings and barricades.
