Woman arrested for bribe try

A 65-year-old woman was arrested by the police after she allegedly tried to bribe a police officer with P50,000 for the release of her ‘drug-peddling’ daughter on Friday night in Caloocan City.

Police chief Senior Supt. Restituto Arcangel identified the woman as Soraida Gamuranao, a resident of Riverside, Barangay 188, Tala, Caloocan City, who is now facing charges for violation of Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code (Corruption of Public Officials).

Arcangel said Gamurano refused to comment when asked about what she did.

Supt. Ferdie del Rosario, assistant chief of police for administration, told reporters that the suspect entered the office of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) past 11 p.m. and tried to bribe one of the arresting officers, PO2 Christian Santos with P50,000.

Del Rosario said the woman was immediately handcuffed and detained as she tried to hand over the amount to the police officer.

“She tried to bribe our police officers for the release of her daughter, Salimah Acmad, who was earlier arrested by SDEU operatives for drug peddling,” Del Rosario said.

The suspect’s daughter, police said, is facing separate drug charges in violation of Section 5 (trading and selling of prohibited illegal substance) of R.A. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act).
