QC allots P2.1M for ‘pan de coco’

The Quezon City government is set to release P29.9 million to help the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) defray the cost of daily food requirements of the Quezon City Jail (QCJ) detainees.

BJMP has 45 detention facilities in the National Capital Region (NCR), and QCJ is easily one of the most crowded with 13,000 detainees.

The release of the amount is contained in a resolution approved by the Quezon City Sangguniang Panglunsod presided by Vice Mayor Ma. Josefina Belmonte.

In a resolution, the Sanggunian directs Mayor Herbert Bautista to appropriate the P29.9 million funds as budget for the food of detainees at the QCJ.

Raquel Malangen, the principal author of the resolution, said it was based on the request of the BJMP under Director Deogracias Tapayan.

According to the Public Affairs and Information Service Office (PAISO), Bautista has already ordered the release of funds to the BJMP.

Under the resolution, P10 million of the budget will be allotted for 4,020 sacks of rice; P11.2 million for pandesal; P2.1 million for pan de coco; P2.1 million for kalihim; P2.1 million for monay; and P2.1 million for Spanish bread.
