PH’s ‘most beautiful airport’ opens door

The new Terminal 2 (T2) of Mactan Cebu International Airport(MCIA) will commence commercial operations today with 22 local and international airlines operating.

The announcement was made yesterday during the blessing of the new T2 by MCIA General Manager-Atty. Steve Dicdican.

The P17.5 billion MCIA T2 has been declared by President Rodrigo Duterte as the “most beautiful airport in the country” last June 7.

It’s been tagged by tourism stakeholders as the world’s first resort airport.

Airport operator GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp.(GMCAC) said all international flights will use the T2 while the domestic flights departing from and arriving at MCIA will use the old Terminal 1 (T1).

Airlines that will operate at T2 include local carriers Philippine Airlines(PAL),Cebu Pacific,Philippines Air Asia and Pan Pacific Airlines.

Among the foreign carriers are Air Busan,Asiana Airlines,Cathay Pacific,China Eastern,Emirates,EVA Air, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Korean Air, Lucky Air, Okay Airways, Royal Air, Scoot, Sichuan Airlines, Silk Air, T’way Air, Vanilla Air and Xiamen Air.

The T2 is expected to boost the passenger capacity of MCIA from 4.5 million to 12.5 million.
