Navotas inaugurates new facilities

The Navotas City government has inaugurated various facilities including a Commission on Audit (COA) office in celebration of its 11th cityhood anniversary, according to Mayor John Rey Tiangco.

The mayor, Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo and other city and barangay officials led the opening of Building 2 of ‘NavotaAs’ Homes Tanza II in Barangay Tanza 2 on Wednesday.

The officials also inaugurated a COA office at the City Hall Complex, the Matangbaka Linear Park and the Navotas Recovery Center in Barangay North Bay Boulevard South Dagat-dagatan.

Building 2 has 51 units that will serve as new homes for Navoteño families currently living along waterways.

Once completed, ‘NavotaAs’ Homes Tanza II will be able provide shelter to 408 families, said Ms. Irish Cubillan, the city’s public information officer.

She said the COA office underwent improvements using minimalist design to make efficient use of space. Its renovation formed part of a series of improvements of offices at the city hall.

The Matangbaka Linear Park, meanwhile, will provide a safe space for kids in the area to play at or for family bonding,” Cubillan said.

The Navotas Recovery Center, on one hand, will house the office of the Navotas Anti-Drug Abuse Council and serve as venue for the counseling of participants of Bidahan, the city’s community-based treatment and rehabilitation program.

Navotas became a city in 2007 through the efforts of then mayor and now Rep. Toby Tiangco.

In other developments, the Navotas mayor distributed bread as he read a story to some of the 595 pupils of Dagat-dagatan Elementary School who will benefit from the recently launched Happy Eating and Reading Program.
