New EV fast charging station opens

Unioil opened its second electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station at its EDSA Guadalupe (Northbound) Station in Makati City on Wednesday to serve customers with electric cars passing through EDSA. The fast-charging station can safely and conveniently charge a variety of US, European, and Japanese electric vehicles.

The launch follows the opening of the first EV charging station in the country in November last year, also by Unioil, at its Congressional Avenue Extension gas station in Quezon City.

Unioil president, Kenneth Pundanera said, “Unioil understands that our consumers are always in a hurry. Due to the currently limited capacities of EV car batteries, new owners of electric vehicles (EV) will now have less anxiety using their EV cars knowing that Unioil’s EV charging stations can quickly and safely recharge their EV batteries from any of Unioil’s conveniently located EV charging stations in Metro Manila.”

Pundanera said that Unioil’s fast charging station in Edsa Guadalupe is equipped with the latest Chademo fast charging protocol for most Japanese cars, CCS fast charging protocol or the Type-2 protocol for most US/European cars.

“Customers with EV cars who will find themselves with low battery, in a hurry and are still far from their homes can conveniently drive into one of several Unioil EV charging stations in Metro Manila and ‘top up’ their EV batteries in as fast as five to 15 minutes, depending on the EV car’s battery configuration & condition,” he said.

Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi congratulated Unioil for supporting the government’s initiative of promoting electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions from petroleum-powered vehicles.

Cusi said in a statement, “We welcome Unioil’s active involvement in setting up e-vehicle (EV) charging stations across the metro.
