Peñalosas battle Indons in Bohol

CEBU CITY – Two members of the famous Peñalosa boxing clan will trade punches with Indonesia’s finest boxers in an explosive five-match card on July 7 at the Bohol Wisdom Gym in Tagbilaran City.

First to display his talent will be Carlo Peñalosa, who will clash with 34-year old Indonesian Iwan Key in an eight-round flyweight battle.

A nephew of former world champions Dodie Boy Peñalosa and Gerry Peñalosa, the 25-year old Carlo is the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight champion.

His last victim was Rio Nainggolan, whom he knocked out last March 10 at the Mandaluyong City Hall Grounds.

In the main event, Dave Peñalosa will be clashing with another Indonesian in Ricky Manufoe in a 10-round featherweight bout.

Dave is undefeated in his 12 career bouts with a record of 12 wins and eight knockouts.

Also set to slug it out is Elias Magpale Joaquino, who will lock horns with Garry Rojo in an eight-round flyweight fight, as well as Talisay fighter Rolien Getalada, who will take on another Boholano in Paliton Baljo in a four-round super flyweight bout, while Marjun Bato will face Jeco Pasiolan Suico in a four-round flyweight fight.

Gerry said they are bringing the fight to Bohol as a treat to boxing-loving Boholanos.

“This is going to be an explosive battle,” said Gerry, noting that the region had produced a handful of quality boxers like Nonito Donaire, Caesar Amonsot, Rey Bautista, AJ Banal, Ricky Sismundo and Mark Magsayo.
