Early poll fever felt in Mandaue

It seems the political pot in Mandaue City is brewing for the 2019 elections.

This as Cebu Sixth District Rep. and former Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes separately held the oath-taking ceremony of the majority of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials last Sunday while incumbent Mayor Luis Gabriel Quisumbing had his yesterday.

Cortes said the elections are still too far away to think about, but for Quisumbing, it was a “puzzling move” for the former to preside over the oathtaking of 14 barangay captains at the J-Centre mall last June 24.

“Our intention here is precisely to show that we’re all working together. However, we learned that there was another oathtaking that was conducted Sunday night. Quite frankly, it is a string of puzzling moves by certain groups and certain personalities in Mandaue City,” Quisumbing said.

Daily Tribune covered both events and noted that more than 50 percent of the elected village chiefs, councilmen, SK chairmen and councilors of Mandaue City attended Cortes’ event.

There are 378 barangay and SK elected officials in Mandue City, 215 of these attended Cortes’ oath-taking ceremony.

Fourteen barangay captains took their oath before Cortes while Quisumbing had 13.
