Man killed by lightning in Cebu

TOLEDO CITY, Cebu — Lightning struck anew, this time claiming the life of an 18-year-old man hit while resting under a tree in Barangay Casoy in Toledo City, Cebu, Thursday late afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Fail Gelig of Cogon Pardo in Cebu City.

Based on the investigation, Senior Police Officer 1 Roxam Enerio said the victim was in Barangay Casoy in time for the barangay’s fiesta.

He was doing street caroling with two other companions.

“He was done caroling and he was under a tree to get some shade. He suffered burns on his forehead. He was rushed to a hospital but declared dead on arrival,” Enerio said.

The incident happened during a thunderstorm in Toledo.

Gelig was the second man hit by lightning in Cebu this week.
