Suspect in N. Ecija priest’s slay falls

A suspect in the killing of Catholic priest Fr. Richmond Nilo was arrested during continuing follow-up operations by elements of the Police Regional Office-3 (PRO-3).

Nabbed was Adell Milan, who was tagged as the gunman by a witness.

Milan was arrested 6:30 p.m. Thursday during an operation in Barangay Malapit in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija.

On Wednesday, PRO-3 director Chief Supt. Amador Corpus asked Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde two days for a major breakthrough by the Special Investigation Task Group “Nilo.”

No further details were issued on Milan’s arrest as there are ongoing follow-up operations.

The SITG “Nilo” on Wednesday said that at least five suspects are being tracked down in connection to the killing of Nilo following backtracking of all available CCTV footages gathered in Zaragosa and nearby towns after the shooting.

Nilo was preparing to conduct a Mass at the Mayamot Chapel in Barangay Mayamiot, Zaragosa last Sunday when he was shot dead by motorcycle-riding suspects who were caught by CCTV before and after the shooting.

Nilo was the third Catholic priest to be killed following Fr. Marcelito Paez and Fr. Mark Ventura.

Another Catholic priest, Fr. Rey Urmeneta, survived a gun attack last June 6 in Laguna.
