Lies, lies, and more lies

“Sereno even had the nerve to claim before her supporters that despite her having been ousted by the High Court, she will continue to fight for the Rule of Law and the democratic institutions, which is really laughable, considering the fact she has been working hard at destroying the Rule of Law and the democratic institutions with her constant lies.”

She may not realize it, but Lourdes Sereno’s penchant for lying is causing destruction to herself, even after her ouster as the Supreme Court Chief Justice, she is proving that the High Court, as well as Solicitor-General Jose Calida, was right in ousting her for her total lack of integrity.

The day the Supreme Court (SC) ousted her with finality, there went Sereno blasting away at her perceived foes in the Executive Department, the High Court and now, again, the House of Representatives at a forum arranged by her supporters.

She again proved she is a serial liar as she claimed the judiciary budget was “held hostage” by the House of Representatives through its speaker, Pantaleon Alvarez, in exchange for her expulsion and unless the SC cooperated with the House plan to remove her. She also said her appointed SC spokesman, Theodore Te, informed her about this. If so, Te is as much a liar as Sereno is and should be fired by the SC as he, the spokesman, even went against the SC’s majority ruling ousting his chief justice.

Eventually, Te will have to resign, if he is not fired first, as a new SC chief justice will be having his preferred spokesman, who, by the way, should serve as the entire SC spokesman, and not just the Chief Justice’s personal spokesman.

Sereno’s claims were quickly proved to be big fat lies by House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas, who called her lies “cunningly crazy,” adding Sereno’s claim was a “quadruple hearsay.”

He proved her claims were pure lies as the House Majority Leader produced House documents on the deliberations of the budget of judiciary.

Fariñas in showing Sereno’s “ignorance or malice,” cited Article VIII of the 1987 Constitution, which states: “The Judiciary shall enjoy fiscal autonomy. Appropriations for the Judiciary may not be reduced by the legislature below the amount appropriated for the previous year and, after approval, shall be automatically and regularly released.”

In showing her propensity for lying, the House Majority Leader through documents proved the proposed Budget of the SC was approved immediately in the committee on Aug. 7, 2017 and again approved in an hour on Plenary on Sept. 6, 2017, with the House’s proposed General Appropriations Act approved on 2nd reading on Sept.12, 2017, and on third reading on Sept. 26, 2017.

Moreover, it was stressed impeachment hearings were conducted long after the House approved the House judiciary budget on third reading.

These were not the only lies she spewed in her speech yesterday.

Just what institutions has she been trying to destroy all this time, from the day that Sereno was being accused by the impeachment complainant, Larry Gadon, if not the House, even claiming, with a straight face, that she was denied her right to defend herself before the House justice committee acting as an impeachment committee, when she certainly knows neither the House nor the Senate hearings allow the lawyers of the resource persons or witnesses to cross-examine the accusers. Not even the preliminary hearings in the Department of Justice allow this.

That’s just the House that she seems bent on destroying for the House panel’s impeachment bid against her. There is, too, the Presidency, as well as the Supreme Court itself, that Sereno wants to destroy through her lies.

By sowing division and fomenting intrigue that she claimed President Duterte admitted doing, he is weakening the rule of law, Sereno said Tuesday as she vowed to continue to fight the administration’s “viciousness.”

And worse, she apparently believes her lies would serve her well and even seems convinced that her “mission” to destroy the SC and President Duterte would lead to yet another people power revolt, with her emerging as the “savior of democracy.”

Sereno even said before her supporters, as though she is a truth teller instead of a serial liar: “Truth has a way of coming out eventually. And (Duterte) is making a mistake if he thinks the Filipino is so easily fooled.”

She reads it wrong as usual. Truth does have a way of coming out eventually, but in Sereno’s case, the truth of her lies is quickly proved.
