Go: Rody to go hard vs tanim-bala scammers

President Duterte has clearly indicated his disapproval of the “tanim-bala” (bullet planting) scam who may have to feed on the bullets used in the ruse.

The recent incident that happened at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will not be tolerated, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said.

Go reiterated Mr. Duterte’s promise that the modus-operandi will end under his watch.

Go issued the assurance after airline passenger Kristine Bumanglag-Moran was stopped at the NAIA Terminal 3 after a bullet was found in her luggage last Friday afternoon.

“Stopping tanim-bala is among the main concerns of our President as he promised before that he will force the culprits to swallow the bullets they planted,” Go told reporters in an interview following the Eid’l Fitr celebration at the Davao City SMX Convention Center.

Go said the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), and Office for Transportation Security (OTS) are conducting separate investigations.

The agencies are expected to submit a report regarding the incident within 24 hours.

He also urged other tanim bala victims to be vigilant and file a complaint to authorities for immediate action.

“What is important here is to assure there is no hassle,” he said.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the investigation it conducted on the alleged “tanim bala” incident, which also went viral on social media indicated that prior to check in, Moran, along with her mother and daughter, passed through initial security screening at Gate 2.

Bumanlag’s brown bag was subjected to baggage search after the X-ray operator observed an image of an ammunition despite the bag being wrapped in plastic.

The operator sought the assistance of a baggage inspector and a police personnel to validate the image.

Bumanlag then removed the clear plastic wrap of the bag and a search was then conducted in her presence while a video was taken by a screening personnel.

The inspection resulted in the recovery of one piece of live ammunition for a caliber 9mm.

Bumanlag was informed of this, and was told that the item will be confiscated, according to the report.

Bumanlg was also assured by the screening personnel that after documentation, she and her companions will be allowed to board their flight for Zamboanga.

Unfortunately, even after these assurances, Bumanlag created a scene and uttered foul allegations to the airport personnel, which she also posted on Facebook.

DOTr, in a statement, maintained there was no irregularity on the actions of screening personnel, who simply strictly followed standard operating procedures.
