Baguio landslide kills 2

TWO people were killed when the barracks they were staying in was buried in a landslide in Baguio City on Wednesday afternoon.

Police identified the fatalities as Patrick Lachica, 23, of Beckel, La Trinidad, Benguet and Hannah Jean Aragon, 22, a resident of Happy Homes. Both are employees of FCL Laranang Construction, the firm building a condominium tower at the accident site in Barangay Salud Mitra.

According to police, continuous rains caused water to gush along Sandico Street causing the landslide.

A security guard, Sherwin Corpus, was also inside the barracks but was able to rush out in time when he felt the ground move.

Corpus said the mud quickly buried the barracks along with the two victims.

Police personnel and emergency response volunteers immediately responded and were able to retrieve the buried bodies of Lachica and Aragon.
