Marijuana planted in flower pots inside house discovered

A mini marijuana plantation was discovered by the police when they launched a buy-bust operation the other night in Marikina City targeting supposed drug pushers in the area.

As a result, the operatives recovered more than P4 million worth of marijuana from suspects Miguel Joseph Arias and Danica Joyce Tapar and a minor when they raided a house along SSS Village, Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City Thursday night.

According to Senior Supt. Roger Quesada, Marikina City police chief, his men were dispatched to the area to conduct a buy-bust operation but they were surprised to find marijuana planted in several pots was grown inside the house.

The police recovered from the suspects some P4 million worth of marijuana leaves aside from those planted in the pots which have yet to be assessed of their street value.

The suspects were brought to the Crime Laboratory of the Eastern Police District for drug testing while the minor will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Meanwhile, elements of the Eastern Police District (EPD) underwent surprise drug testing in compliance with the order of the top PNP leadership as part of the cleansing process being implemented.

According to EPD director Chief Supt. Reynaldo Biay, they received an order from Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office regional director, to conduct the surprise drug testing of his men while the cities of Mandaluyong, Pasig and San Juan will follow.

The drug testing was conducted around 10 a.m. the other day which was led by Supt. Roger Quesada on the 4th floor of Marikina City Legislative Building.

The aim of the drug test was to make sure all EPD uniformed and non-uniformed personnel are clear of illegal drugs.

Those who underwent the drug testing are the 104 personnel of Marikina City police.

The result of the drug test will be out in three days though the officials said those found positive for drugs will be charged administratively.

Biay said they will not tolerate policemen to use drugs as it is part of the cleansing process of the police to rid the organization of scalawags.
