Bourdain, celeb chef, dies at 61

Celebrity chef-cum-travelogue guru Anthony Bourdain was confirmed dead from an apparent suicide yesterday. He was 61.

The award-winning host was in France working on an upcoming episode of CNN’s Parts Unknown. Bourdain’s close friend and French chef Eric Ripert found him unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.

Bourdain was a frequent visitor in the Philippines. He once said Cebu’s lechon was the “best ever roasted pig he had ever tasted” in an episode of his defunct show No Reservations.

During his most recent visit in the country he declared that Jollibee was the “wackiest, jolliest place on Earth.”

Bourdain was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America in 2008. He won a Peabody Award for Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown in 2013.
