‘Abusive partners’ land behind bars

The woman has an existing Barangay Protection Order against Gonzales with a validity of 15 days.

The Quezon City Police District on Friday announced the arrest of two men for allegedly abusing their partners in violation of Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

P/Lt. Col. Jerry Castillo, station commander of the Novaliches Police Station, identified one of those nabbed as Ronald Gonzales, 40 years old and a resident of Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches.

Based on the report, the complainant and the suspect were live-in partners.

The woman has an existing Barangay Protection Order against Gonzales with a validity of 15 days starting 21 May to 5 June 2023.

Last 25 May, at about 4 a. m, the woman arrived in their rented house and found Gonzales sleeping there in violation of the BPO.

She tried to drive him out but he got mad and threatened he’d kill her if she would insist on having him jailed.

This prompted her to immediately seek assistance at PS 4 with the responding operatives arresting the suspect.

A second police operation was conducted by Batasan Police Station cops under P/Lt. Col. Morgan Aguilar.

Arrested was Jun Orenday Abuel, 41, a resident of Barangay Commonwealth.

Investigation revealed that prior to the incident, the complainant received a text message from a nephew that her husband was having an illicit affair.

Also on 25 May at 1:30 a. m., upon arrival at their house, the victim confronted her husband for the alleged affair with another woman.

Abuel, who was drunk, got annoyed and allegedly punched her repeatedly, making her lose consciousness.

When she regained her senses, she sought the assistance of PS 6. The police officers who responded arrested her husband.

Quezon City Police District Chief P/Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III lauded PS 4 and PS 6 operatives.

“I commend QCPD for their relentless campaign against criminality. Let us continue to uphold the principle Serbisyong Nagkakaisa to totally achieve a safe and secured community, NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo said.

Torre asked men to treasure their partners while warning those who would violate RA 9262 that they would face arrest.
